1 Traditional steering system of commercial vehicles
 

The electric power steering system (EPS) currently generally equipped in passenger cars can provide a good steering control interface for the lateral intelligence of the vehicle; different from this, commercial vehicles are generally equipped with hydraulic power steering system (HPS) due to the large steering resistance torque. or Electro-Hydraulic Power Steering (EHPS) to achieve steering ease and maneuverability requirements, but such systems cannot actively steer the vehicle independently of driver intent

 

2 Intelligent Steering System for Commercial Vehicles

At present, commercial vehicles still generally use a 24V power supply system, which cannot be equipped with a higher-power booster motor. The booster motor alone cannot effectively overcome the large ground steering resistance moment when the commercial vehicle is turned. Therefore, the current mainstream solution for the intelligent steering system of commercial vehicles In order to retain the original HPS, a set of subsystems composed of sensors, reducers, power-assisted motor assemblies and corresponding electronic control units are added to realize the intelligent steering function.
 
 

 

03 Working principle of commercial vehicle intelligent steering system

When the steering wheel is turned, the input torsion bar will be deformed. The deformation is measured by the connected TAS, and the torque is calculated and transmitted to the ECU.

Taking into account other vehicle parameters such as speed, the ECU determines the additional steering torque required and drives the booster motor, which assists the steering movement by increasing or decreasing the steering torque.
The output torque of the motor is coupled with the driver's hand force through the deceleration and torque increase output of the worm and worm gear, and then transmitted to the rotary valve of the circulating ball hydraulic power steering device. The torsion bar in the screw rotates, and the torque is sequentially output to the steering rocker arm through the screw-ball-nut transmission pair and the rack-tooth sector transmission pair. Finally, the driver's hand power, motor power and hydraulic power are coupled together to act on the steering wheel to overcome the steering resistance.
